It’s hard to beat the beauty of the Coachella Valley in the spring, with glorious flowers of all colors painting our desert landscape and infusing our home with life and beauty.
On Saturday, April 7, our valley will be filled with a different kind of flower as the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is held at lovely Palm Desert Civic Center Park. An important part of every Walk to End Alzheimer’s event across the country is the Promise Garden Ceremony; every Walk participant is given a large “windmill” styled flower in a color that represents their connection to Alzheimer’s disease and the Alzheimer’s Association: yellow for caregivers, orange for champions of our vision of a World Without Alzheimer’s, blue for people living with the disease, and purple for those who have lost a loved one.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is truly a transcendent way to experience the Alzheimer’s Association and all that we stand for and offer, from information, education and referral, to advocacy, public policy and research that will someday find a cure for this devastating disease. Most of all, it is an inspiring, uplifting event that brings all segments of our community together to celebrate, honor and support those living with the disease of Alzheimer’s and their families.
Register today, form a team and ask your family and friends to join you. All fundraising is done online via the Walk website with many tools and tips to help you be successful. Special areas such as the Champion Tent with a catered breakfast and the Team Tailgate area where the top 5 fundraising teams will have special benefits and perks at the Walk. In our festival area, enjoy live music, food, a kid zone, entertainment, special guests and a beautiful venue to educate all about the many local resources and community partners that offer services meaningful to you and your family.
Your fundraising efforts will ensure that our programs and services such as support groups, educational series and lectures, and social engagement classes like our art-based “Expressions” series remain free to all participants, in addition to our counseling, information and referral and care consultations.
The Alzheimer’s Association has been serving the Coachella Valley for 20 years and with your help, we will continue our mission until every desert family living with Alzheimer’s has the help that they need.
